Laparoscopy #2

Ouch.

I have been out of work this week since Tuesday. I had to do a bowel prep before the surgery and guessed correctly that its not something to be done in the work place. I had listened to all of the bowel prep survival tips, so I guess I didn't suffer as bad as others. Though I don't recommend it.

Wednesday we drove down to Charlotte to the hospital. They were fairly quick in getting me all set up. A male nurse put the IV into my left hand, even after I told him no one can find a vein on that side. He sure as hell tried, and wouldn't admit that I was right. That thing really hurt!

The anesthetist came around and I got some nausea meds that worked very well...made me a little giddy too. After about 30 minutes a couple nurses came around to take me into the operating room. I got up on the table and got comfy while we all waited for the doctor. I know I was talking rubbish to them!! But I was calm :)

I later woke up in the recovery room. Hurting and asking for Andrew.... I don't remember why, but they didn't go get him straight away. Then the recovery nurse noticed my IV wasn't 'working'. What does that mean!?!? She and another nurse took it out and but it on my right hand. My left hand ended up being swollen for a day or two. I didn't have any nausea at all, so that was very nice.

After I made a few trips to the bathroom, they were ready to let me go. It really doesn't feel nice trying to pee after you've had a catheter.

The doctor told Andrew that it all went well. Both of my tubes are open, she took out 2 large endometrioma cysts, one on each ovary... she also cleared up a lot of scar tissue and some adhesions. She left some IV fluid in my abdomen as well to let my ovaries float, and not get stuck to other organs. I *think* the doc told Andrew that my right side was pretty bad, and didn't look like anything had been done in the first surgery. She recommended getting pregnant. She is going to think about whether or not to put me on Lupron injections for a few months before IVF. Guess I'll find out at the follow up appt.

So, since we got home I've been sleeping a lot and need help standing up. Andrew has been very helpful :) I've got the usual incision soreness, and my back/neck feels like every muscle has been pulled... perhaps from moving me off the table ? I can also feel where there has been cuts on my ovaries, so I'm feeling a little worse than the first time....but thats because she did more.

Anyway, I think I need some more pain pills.
