I was the very last patient yesterday with the Dr Teaff. She gave me some really gross, but very cool, pictures of my insides. Its interesting (for me) to look at.
My right ovary was really massively enlarged, and the left one swollen too and had staple/clip things in it from the first lap. My bowel was stuck to my left ovary, and there were lots of adhesions. Bleck. Stage 4 endo is nasty, but my tubes were still clear - yay!
Anyways, with all of the extensive dissection she had to do she is putting me on Lupron for 2 months to let my ovaries rest and heal before pumping them up to the max for eggs for IVF. Since I'm on day 52 of my cycle she checked to see if I have ovulated yet... 3.41 was my level (which is pants) but it counts.
So, we rushed over to the pharmacy and picked up my Lupron Depot 3.75 mg intra-muscular injection. The insurance company requires pre-certification before they will cover the injection, since it was very late on Friday evening that wasn't going to happen. So I forked over $643.00 and will have to be reimbursed once the nurses call the ins. company for the approval and the pharmacy resubmits the claim. Grrr...stupid insurance companies.
This morning was spent working myself up over the shot. A nurse was supposed to do it... I have no training. My nurse cousin wasn't home.. so Andrew & I educated ourselves with youtube videos. He drew a bulls-eye on my ass and I did it myself. It didn't hurt nearly as I had expected, though the needle looked/was huge. I was very proud of myself :)
Now my ovaries will shut down and I will have menopause. Hot flashes, headaches, low libido, aching joints, acne, moodiness, and a few more possible side effects. Hopefully it won't be too rough on us and the couple of months will fly by before the IVF cycle starts - sometime in February.
