Both are doing well and are gaining approximately an ounce a day. Today Rachel is 3lbs 9oz and David is 3lbs 12oz. They are starting to get some fat in their cheeks and legs.
David is the most laid back & easy going little baby and Rachel has been named the 'Diva' of the NICU. Of course they are both very well behaved when we are there holding them. We spend a couple hours with them daily and love every minute. Andrew is already a pro at diaper changes and has hinted that he actually enjoys it (I hope that lasts a few more years).
Both kiddos have had their ups & downs for sure, but they manage to pull through it with a lot of stressing on my part. Since they are now breathing on their own, the next steps are gaining body fat to maintain their temperatures and learning to eat. Within the next week, we should be able to start bottle feeding & attempt breastfeeding.
I’m still pumping milk around the clock and need naps to compensate for the lost sleep at night or I have a meltdown; otherwise, all is good. The freezer is getting full! We’re both anxious to have Rachel & David home safe and sound.
